My library Help Advanced Book Search. For me, it’s no less than slander, and very unfair. Fyodor Dostoevsky was a Russian novelist and writer of fiction whose works, including Crime and Punishment and The Brothers Karamazovhave had a profound and karamqzov effect on intellectual thought and world literature.
Since I’m not a Russian linguist, I can only go off my end user results, and that is of course tainted by how engaged i am in the story, and the story itself. The stylistic accuracy and versatility of registers used. Such an interesting discussion.

To cut the long story short: English isn’t my first language, but I thought the Garnett translation of Crime and Punishment was very readable. The dissolute landowner Fyodor Pavlovich Karamazov is murdered; his sons – the ricnard intellectual Ivan, the hot-blooded Dmitry, and the saintly novice Alyosha – are all at some level involved.

That’s not to say you won’t get something different out of Pevear, but I’m saying if you end up with Garnett it’s not like your reading experience will be terrible. Just can’t forgive this intro, that teaches you to think poorly of the book before you’ve begun.

I have a copy of the Airmont Classics edition, copyright — with NO translator listed at all. Pevear and Volokhonsky are supposedly the ones that translate closest to the original Russian.
He was born in Moscow in brpthers, and when he died inhe left a legacy of masterworks that influenced the great thinkers and writers of the Western world and immortalized him as a giant among writers of world beothers. There are many choices here.
